God must be looking out for me by sending two Jeffs into my life to help. Just a quick note of thanks to both guys for their assistance.
Jeff Wood
About a month ago, Jeff Wood appeared on the scene while dropping one trailer and hooking to another at Uline. I had inadvertently gone too far under the trailer, and as I was connecting, I put the kingpin on the wrong side of the skid plate. The only way to fix my mistake was to raise the trailer enough to allow me to pull forward and start all over. I am sure many of you have had that same experience and know how frustrating that can be, especially if the trailer is already loaded. I did my best to raise the trailer, but I struggled in my old age as I am not as strong as I used to be. Jeff appeared on the scene and gave me an assist, raising the trailer significantly. A yard jockey also assisted, and we were able to fix my mistake. That was not all! I had difficulty finding the valve I needed to pull to move the tandems. Again, Jeff is to the rescue. Although I had looked at the proper location, the valve was hidden, and Jeff pointed it out. Problem averted, tandems slid into the correct position, and I was in my way.
Jeff Piurko
The second Jeff is Jeffrey Piurko. I ran into Jeffrey at Caterpillar in York, PA. We were both hooking empty trailers, and we began talking. Jeffrey was headed to the exact pick-up location as I, Double Envelopes, in Baltimore, MD. He reported he had been there several times before and knew the “ropes.” I asked if I could follow him. He said he would be happy to run together. I was so glad that he had been there before. By following his route, I could get into the correct lanes as needed for each turn, some of which I may not have been able to make had I not had his tire paths to follow. Once we got on-sight, he was gracious to spot me as I pulled into my dock and then gave me some additional backing tips that I have already begun to implement. As if that was not enough, his backing training continued when we happened to see each other at the Oakwood Pilot and, again, traveled to State Farm together, our final delivery point.
So… many thanks be to God for His putting two Jeffs in my path in times of need. Thanks, guys! You are both a credit to Nussbaum and the truck driver profession. -Ken Bugler
