“I am writing to wholeheartedly nominate Darren Winters for an OWNit Moment. Darren demonstrated exceptional leadership, quick thinking, and deep compassion in a critical situation that could have had an even worse outcome.
While we were driving on Hwy 71 near Breda, Iowa, a speeding car ran a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle, which then hit our truck. Amidst the chaos, Darren sprang into action, pushing the panic button and instructing me to call 911. He then rushed out of the truck to provide aid to the injured occupants. Darren’s calm and decisive leadership allowed me to focus on communicating with emergency services while he took charge of the situation. He worked alongside other Good Samaritans to extract the occupants from the vehicle, helped flip the car back upright, and even assisted with CPR. His composure and expertise were invaluable in those intense moments.
Throughout the incident, Darren’s actions were a testament to his character and commitment to helping others. His leadership and selflessness undoubtedly made a significant difference in the outcome. I feel fortunate to have had him by my side during such a traumatic event. Darren’s bravery, quick thinking, and compassion are truly deserving of recognition. Prayers for the families!” -Tyler Ward
