Taking Care of the People Around Us
By: Scott Herrmann
Alden Nussbaum’s famous quote, “If you take care of your people, the rest will take care of itself,” is one that has always stood out to me.
I want to share three things that I’ve observed and appreciate about how this mindset plays itself out at Nussbaum.
We believe that everyone has been given gifts.
The question is never IF someone has talents, but which talents they have. It’s fun to see people come into Nussbaum and use their gifts for a common purpose.
We believe that people work best as a team.
Transportation is complex and requires a bunch of people all working together to help things go smoothly. It’s amazing the amount of teamwork that goes on here at Nussbaum. As I’ve learned through Working Genius about how different people like to work, it’s reinforced that we need multiple people with their unique gifts to get the job done!
We believe that a willingness to learn and grow is better than never making a mistake.
Even on our best days, we’re not perfect. We celebrated Easter this month, and I’m grateful that Christ came to redeem us. This gives us the ability to have grace with each other and to apologize when we mess up. That way a mistake doesn’t have to lead to fractured relationships and teamwork.
Here at Nussbaum, we get to work with many different kinds of people. We get the opportunity every day to continue what Alden started and take care of the people around us!
