Purpose Driven: Rejoice and be Thankful
Well, we’ve begun another year, and most of us are glad to leave 2020 behind us.
I reflected over the past year, and there were a couple of themes that came to me. During Christmastime, we hear many different songs and hymns, but one that has stuck out to me this year is “Joy to the World.”
Joy, or rejoicing, is a topic that bears looking into.
Webster defines joy as “the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune, or by the prospect of possessing what one desires.”
That’s a nice thought. It gives us some idea of how we should feel after considering the birth of Jesus Christ and all of the blessings we have been given, as well as surviving the last year we’ve experienced. And, in many ways, we’ve come out stronger through it – in our personal lives and at Nussbaum as well.
It’s nearly impossible to have joy in our lives and not be thankful at the same time. That word, thankful, has stuck out to me as well.
As with any word, there are several definitions that you can find and use, but Webster defines thankful as “conscious of benefit received.”
Think of the turmoil this past year –shutdowns, the early uncertainty of what this virus was all about, mask mandates, loss of jobs for many, political turmoil… the list could go on.
We do well to also think of the benefits we’ve received.
Trucking has been very busy. We never had to lay any employees off. Our paychecks continued at the same steady pace we’ve always experienced. And, to date, COVID-19 has not taken any employees. A vaccine is slowly being disseminated throughout the country. And the company has been positioned for a successful 2021 through increased rates and proper staffing.
We have a positive work environment, co-workers who care about our families and us, and, as we’ve already alluded to, “the Lord has come!”
We are truly blessed. As we begin 2021, let’s rejoice and be thankful!
