More Than A Neighbor
By: Sam Moravec
My name is Sam Moravec, and I am an over-the-road driver at Nussbaum Transportation. I want to share what Nussbaum means to me.
This company is more than just my employer – it’s like family to me, but much closer.
Growing up here in Bloomington, Illinois, my family and I were neighbors with Kirk Nussbaum (Brent & Tianne’s brother). He was very friendly and first introduced us to the company. I remember one day, he picked up a Nussbaum truck from the terminal and drove it to our house; he showed me around and gave me a ride. This experience was a tiny hint of what my future held.
As a kid, I always had a passion for transportation, especially trains. I really thought I would get into the railroad industry! However, as I researched this career path and spoke with active railroad employees, I realized it was not the right work environment for me (I was on the wrong track).
After getting my class A CDL in 2014, my parents suggested I apply at Nussbaum, reminding me Kirk worked there. However, I was not hired due to my lack of experience.
After driving school buses for five years, I applied at Nussbaum again. They recommended I get 6-12 months of OTR experience at another carrier, then try again at Nussbaum.
After accumulating 13 months of safe, clean OTR experience, I applied again to Nussbaum. I got the job offer, which was a very righteous moment for me. I felt joy knowing my efforts had finally paid off!
Working at Nussbaum is quite rewarding. I drive long distances but still get home often. I’ve eliminated personal debt and can now focus on my life goals while continuing my work.
I went from being neighbors with a Nussbaum to being in the Nussbaum family. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be!
Thank you,
Sam
Awesome story. We are so happy you are here!
