Life’s Purpose Fulfilled

By: Chris Chaney

Before I came to the knowledge and saving grace of God, I was just existing… no purpose. From a physical perspective, it appeared that I had everything I needed and life was under control. However, looks are deceiving. The truth is, I was empty…no purpose. Even though family and friends encouraged me, I still did not know that there was a plan for my life, and it would start by encountering God.

I found myself at a revival that I did not purposely attend. The plan was to go, hook up with some friends, and then cruise the town. I walked in and sat at the back. While there, I heard people testify about the changes in their lives. These people were from dark places (darker than where I was) but were vulnerable enough to risk public embarrassment to speak on their newly found FREEDOM. Tears streamed from their eyes and the eyes of others who witnessed the reality of changed lives.

Internally, I knew that I was tired and wanted to be out of this dark place, but I wasn’t sure if the God they referred to was even interested in me. Before long, I was conversing with God as though he and I were in a room by ourselves. After all, what did I have to lose? I was broken. What’s the worst that could happen…NOTHING

In the days to follow, I began to see life differently. It’s true that an overnight success is rare, but that’s how this process felt. Light began to rapidly infiltrate my dark places, and for the first time, I started telling myself that I had PURPOSE. This purpose ignited the GREATEST relationship I had ever experienced and taught me that my life was all about drawing humanity to him.

Finally, I am blessed with a wonderful wife, three children, three grandchildren, and a job at Nussbaum where I can minister to others. I want to be a voice that encourages people who find themselves in the dark place I once occupied.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
-Matthew 6:33 KJV
