Purpose Driven // Consider it Done

Consider it Done

By: Douglas Knepp

I recently crossed paths with a retired Nussbaum driver, and we were soon reminiscing about “the good ol’ days.”

“My line was always, ‘consider it done!’” he told me.

“We need you to pick up a load tonight at 5:00.”

“Consider it done.”

“Could you send us a copy of your scale ticket?”

“Consider it done.”

What was so significant about those three little words? They conveyed willingness, personal responsibility, and dependability. Of course, if he said, “consider it done” and never followed through, the words would be a hollow promise. But he did carry through. His actions were just as consistent as his use of the phrase. When he said, “consider it done,” we could trust him. He picked up the load on schedule and ensured the paperwork arrived on time.

What an excellent example of being purpose driven! “Consider it done” is an excellent summary of our core values: speaking the truth, doing the right thing, putting our best foot forward, and going after our goals! Do OUR words and actions convey the same cheerfulness, energy, and determination? Let’s be purpose-driven so that when others depend on us, they can “consider it done.”
