National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day

AKA – Small Business Appreciation

Today is National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day, which I have loosely translated to Small Business Day. 2020 was rough on small businesses. Let’s make that change in 2021!

Check out these small businesses recommended by the people of Nussbaum.

Garrie Atkins, Lisa Burton, Cody, and Cole Zeller all have great local connections to these Central IL area businesses that you’ve got to check out.

Floral Designs // Morton, IL

From Cole and Cody Zeller

“This is our brother and sister-in-law’s flower shop in Morton, IL. They design wedding flowers, fill funeral needs, and deliver daily fresh floral arrangements. They also sell home décor and offer in-home design service.

I won’t speak for Cody, but Floral Designs is important to me because it is my brother’s business now, and I love to see his and my sister-in-law Kim’s passion for design inspire those around them. Their products and expertise have spruced up many homes, weddings, and special events throughout the years, and it has been special to watch.”

Fusion Brew // Normal, IL

From Garrie Atkins

“Two really good friends of Avis and myself, Virgil and Rebecca Hovar, own and operate Fusion Brew on Main Street in Normal.”

Master Fit // Bloomington, IL

From Lisa Burton

“This is my mother – Annie de Jonghe (de Young). She owns her own business in Bloomington. She is a master tailor. The neat thing about her is she is French – very French – heavy-accent French.

After ‘retiring,’ she decided she wasn’t done working and opened her own shop. She says it keeps her young and alert. She is extremely skilled, and I have seen her work miracles.

I realize she is my mother, but honestly, she is one of the nicest, most cheerful, and warm people you will ever meet (ask Rick Schmidt). I don’t know what this town will do when she finally puts down the needle and thread.”
