Here Comes the Sun! / 2025 Nussbaum Fishing Derby

Here Comes the Sun!

Saturday, September 27th was a beautiful, warm fall day for some fishing and fellowship! It marked our eighth year of hosting the Fishing Derby as a kick-off to ESOP month! Highlights from the day included catching a 10.3-pound turtle (Silas Wagenbach), delicious fried fish, and enjoying this unusually long season of warm sunshine we’ve been having.

We had around 160 fishers and 350+ total people in attendance. In addition, 762 fish were caught — the most we’ve caught at a derby yet!

A note from Rick Schmidt, Committee Chair – “Fishing Derby Committee – Thank you for the work that you put into this fishing derby to make it a success. Doing this on top of the normal day to day work is not easy. Facilities – You do more behind the scenes work than anyone realizes. Making sure the pond is in good shape, mowing/keeping the area clear, set up of all the tables and tents, and then the cleanup. THANK YOU! Volunteers, thanks for taking time out of your Saturday to help out! It is such a fun event, and we are thankful for the support from so many, and we love the faces of the kids when they get to see a turtle in the tank!!!”
