Veterans Day is tomorrow, Thursday, November 11, 2021.
I’ve created a list of three ways that you can celebrate a veteran in your life. I know that some veterans don’t like to be noticed or recognized, so these ideas are quiet and not-so-showy ways to honor your loved ones.
It’s important to recognize their bravery and sacrifice. Yes, maybe they decided to serve for themselves. But they took up a calling that many will shy away from – myself included.
To our veterans – you’ve sacrificed time, family, friends, and life experiences. You’ve put your life on hold to serve our country.
Few have chosen to make this sacrifice, and you deserve to be recognized for it.
Thank you.
3 Ways to Thank a Veteran
- Write a Note: If you know a veteran, take a moment to write them a note, text, or email. “Hey, I know you don’t like the spotlight – but I just wanted to let you know that I’m proud of you and thankful for your service in the military. I know it’s what you wanted to do, but it’s something I can’t imagine doing myself. I am incredibly thankful for you and the veterans like you who answered this call to service so sacrificially.”
- Share a Meal: Who doesn’t like free food and not having to cook dinner? Invite your veteran over for a meal and listen to their stories. Or, if they’re more introverted, send them a gift card to their favorite restaurant with a simple note, such as: “Enjoy a meal on us. Happy Veterans Day.”
- Donate: We say we’re thankful for our veterans, but sometimes the phrase “Thank you for your service” becomes empty. Don’t let it become a meaningless phrase. Put some oomph behind it and donate to your veterans – whether it’s your money or your time.
