Happy Memorial Day 2024

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend, fellow Nussbaum employee-owners! If you’re going home to be with family – relax, recharge, and enjoy your time. If you’re out on the road this weekend – thank you for your hard work over the holiday weekend. You are especially appreciated and noticed.

Remember, Honor, and Be Devoted

The reason we get to celebrate this holiday weekend is somber. We are taking time to reflect, remember, respect, and honor our fallen military heroes. There is no greater sacrifice and love than to lay down your life for the protection of others.

We remember and honor them this weekend. But that’s not all we do.

Times of remembrance are meant to “take us back,” but they’re also meant to point us forward. That is, now that we’ve remembered, what should we do in response? I just recently returned from a trip to Washington D.C., and while visiting the Lincoln Memorial, I saw these words etched in stone. I think they are fitting for Memorial Day:

The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” – Abraham Lincoln, 1863 Gettysburg Address
