As Matt and I talk about the growth of Nussbaum, he exclaims, “We should add to LiNK… search for a person, instead of search for a trailer!”
Meet Matt
We know Matt Haton by his contagious humor and delicious homemade BBQ sauce. When he walks into the office, his name echoes with excitement from all who know him! Matt is a father to four and has a darling wife, Bobbie Jo. Outside of driving, he has an eye for graphic design. This summer, you’re sure to find him fishing or enjoying an outdoor movie (projector-style).
Out of the Darkness and Into His Marvelous Light
Matt Haton takes off his hat and begins to share, “I got out of the military and was an alcoholic. I never put my family first. I was always more concerned with getting my next drink.”
After a crippling weekend confronted by the weight of his sin, a still-intoxicated Matt called his children’s Pastor. After the conversation, he poured out a few hundred dollars worth of alcohol and recommitted his life to Christ. He pays tribute to his wife for her faithfulness to stay and to never give up on him, “She opened my eyes to what was haunting me.”
Sober, he stepped up and took a job with Roehl Transport. He stayed out for weeks away from home. It was a time of spiritual discipline and reflection for Matt. Eventually, he left Roehl and told Bobbie Jo, “We will pray about it, and God will provide.”
Naturally, her response was, “Did you really say that?”
Bobbie Jo was witnessing Matt exercise his faith in God’s provision. Truly she saw evidence Matt had walked out of the darkness and into His marvelous light. Now, we at Nussbaum reap the benefits of God’s provision and Matt’s commitment to walk faithfully.
Since March 2019, Matt has proven to be a good steward at Nussbaum. We love utilizing him as a trainer and a Road Captain. Also, it’s no secret that Matt is Certified RED! Matt shares that his family coming for his ceremony is his most memorable moment at Nussbaum.
The Change in Her Smile
Today, Matt reflects on one of the greatest gifts the Lord has given him. “I see the difference in my wife’s smile.”
Four years of sobriety, God in control, and serving with purpose has manifested itself… in her smile.
Inspiration from Matt
Soon, Matt plans to celebrate his wife Bobbie Jo’s 40th birthday on May 16th. In Matt’s upbringing, birthdays were something overlooked. He plans to change this for his wife. There will be a rock band, a petting zoo, and surely a lot of good barbeque!
Matt! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I know you are an inspiration to many.
