Cloudy With A Chance Of Fish
Saturday, September 28th was a beautiful (albeit a bit cloudy and windy) day for fishing. It marked our seventh year of hosting the Fishing Derby as a kick-off to ESOP month! The morning was filled with smiles, excitement, laughter, and of course – full bellies (from donuts, hot dogs, brats, cupcakes, and fresh-off-the-hook fried fish). The lakeshore was packed with excited fishers (a HUGE thank you to our amazing maintenance department for getting everything cleaned up and ready for the day!) and the derby kicked off at 9am.
We had 187 registered fishers and around 400 total people in attendance. While we didn’t have many whoppers this year (some suspect they hid out at the bottom of the lake because of the wind), 591 fish were caught — about triple the amount from last year!
A note from Angie Green, Committee Chair: “I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the Fishing Derby Committee and Facilities Team. I deeply appreciate each one of you. Thank you for your dedication and hard work these past few months! Without your time and expertise, we wouldn’t be able to pull off such a successful and fun event.”
