Can I Be Content with What I Have? // Bill Wettstein, CFO

I love the changing of the seasons here in Illinois. Yes, I can grumble as good as the next person that it is too cold, too hot, too windy, too wet, or too dry. But, I need to stop grumbling because I constantly marvel at the beauty of creation. How we go from the cold of winter to the lush spring to the bright summer days and on to the coolness and colors of fall.

Each season has its blessings that we can appreciate and be thankful for. In the winter, I feel like I can relax a little more and get more sleep with less daylight.

In the spring, I enjoy getting out into the woods to look for mushrooms, planting a little garden, and watching new life begin on our hobby farm with calves, piglets, chicks, ducklings, and some baby goats.

Summer, for me, can be cookouts and bike rides and the relaxation of mowing the lawn.

In the fall, I enjoy helping my son with harvest on the farm and spending some time deer hunting in the woods.

Whether we are talking about the seasons of the year or the seasons of our life, we rob ourselves of blessings when we complain rather than enjoy the season we are in.

Can we see the beauty and count the blessings? Can we be content with what we have?

I had to think of this poem:

What drives my contentment, joy, and thankfulness is my motive. Am I trying to get my way and serve my priorities?

Or am I trying to enable others and show them my love and appreciation?

A humble and thankful heart is a big step towards being purpose-driven.

Blessings!
