Road Captain Summit — What We Heard from Drivers

A strong summit with great energy, meaningful conversations, and real ideas from the road.

Nussbaum Transportation  ·  Road Captain Summit Recap

This summit had a strong feeling from start to finish. Everyone came ready to share ideas, ask questions, and talk through real situations on the road. Several leaders noted it as one of the most productive summits yet — based on the level of participation and quality of feedback. There was a noticeable focus on making things better.

    Key Themes

Tablet & routing tools — Surfaced in every group as the top pain point. The issue isn’t a lack of tools — it’s usability, clarity, and reinforcement in the cab.
Orientation & early support — Drivers are being taught the right things, but information overload leads to gaps in weeks 1–2. Short, targeted follow-ups over the first 4–8 weeks can close the gap.
Split loads — Weighing loads ahead of time and clear communication on meeting location and timing helps both drivers stay aligned and avoid delays.
Road Captain relationships — Most effective when they build a relationship first, adjust to the driver’s experience level, and show up for real-world situations.
Resource & training access — Resources exist but are hard to find in the moment. Drivers prefer simple, quick-hit information over volume.
Technology — Drivers are excited about camera-based mirror systems and new tools. Reliability and training support remain key to adoption.
