Nussbaum GPS Trailer Tracking
It’s time for an overall update on the status of the Phillips trailer tracking project. After the LiNK update from mid-February, drivers now have access to trailer GPS information. It has proven to be very helpful already.
Trailer Tracking in LiNK
Here’s a rundown of how to utilize the new features in LiNK.
- Trailers Near Me – Located on the stop level when selecting the map tab at the bottom. This will show any trailers that are within two miles of your current location.
- Single Trailer – This can be accessed next to an assigned trailer on the stop level. This will show the location of that specific trailer.
- Search for Trailer – Inside of Trailers Near Me and Single Trailer, there is a search bar at the top of the page that can search for specific trailers by Trailer ID.
- There is a document in the InfoCenter with more in-depth instructions on how to use this great feature.
- Note: Leased trailers will not have any GPS tracking on them
Tracking Our Fleet
We have installed GPS in 884 out of the 983 total trailers that we are installing them on. So, we are 89.9% done. We have 1,146 trailers in our fleet with 79 rental trailers and 76 trailers that are 2012 and 2013 model years, and we do not plan on installing them.
We are bringing on 175 new trailers this year, and they will all have Phillips installed on them. By the end of 2021, we hope to have around 1,150 trailers with GPS installed on them. That equals out to approximately 95% of our fleet.
Benefits of Trailer Tracking
There is a fair amount of value in the information that we now have available from trailer tracking. Drivers can save time by having access to trailer locations. Operations has been utilizing the information to help drivers find trailers and work with customers when there are trailer issues. Maintenance will be utilizing it to help drivers diagnose issues with their trailers and hopefully prevent driver downtime. And Sales can use it to work with customers on trailer utilization.
A big shout-out to the shop, particularly the trailer techs, for all the work they’ve done on this project!
