More on the New Channahon Shop Location

You’ve probably seen the announcement last week regarding a new shop in Channahon, IL. And I want to expand on that a little.

We moved our equipment to the new location in Channahon this past weekend and will be using it as the drop yard moving forward. However, the 2-bay shop and driver lounge facility will not be ready for use for a few more weeks.

Effective immediately, we will no longer be using the drop yard on Youngs Road in Channahon. The company code that you will see in trip information is NUSCHA. The new shop is accessed at the same exit, Route 6, as the old drop yard.  

Why Do We Need a Second Shop?

As we’ve grown and expanded our service area, we’ve run up against a couple of different issues. Because such a large percentage of our system drivers domicile here at Hudson, it puts a lot of pressure on our shop to do maintenance work. And it’s also a lot of stress operationally when we try to get drivers home for weekends or holidays. 

Our goal with adding an auxiliary shop and parking location in Channahon is to give another base for recruiting to add drivers and spread operational and maintenance stress. The Joliet area has the highest amount of Nussbaum truck traffic after Hudson. It is reasonably close to headquarters to give us a good opportunity to try our hand at expanding our shop presence.

A big “Thank you!” to all involved in getting this location off the ground. Fleet Services Manager James Grier has been managing the project and will have oversight of the location, and Levi Fehr will be the lead tech at the Channahon location. Over time, we hope to have 3-5 techs total working out of that location.
