2024 Year-In-Review Part 1 // What Was One Of Your Favorite (Personal) Moments This Year?

What was one of your favorite personal moments this year? What makes Nussbaum special are the people that work here. Each one is living a life full of little moments that made up their year. Below, read some of those favorite 2024 memories.

What was one of your favorite (personal) moments this year?

Joseph Anderson: Probably when my wife discovered Walmart will deliver groceries to our front door (we live in a small town). Her daily Amazon deliveries now have to fight for space on the front porch but it’s a price she was willing to pay.

Chris Aranda: My favorite moments this year were the times I had with my family this summer. As our kids get older, we are really enjoying their personalities and humor as we travel and play together.

Neil Barbour: Due to the change in Illinois law, I was able to take 7 weeks paid vacation. That bought me more time to grow closer to my grandchildren who live in Texas.

Joseph Bendorf: My favorite personal moment of the year was the day I held my 1st grandchild in my arms.

Jessi Blunier: The times spent traveling with my husband 😊 We love taking trips together and one of my favorites this year was a weekend trip to Nashville. We just explored the city and ate good food and enjoyed spending time together.

Addison Bohler: In September, we celebrated our daughter Raelyn’s 1st birthday and the milestone of our first year as parents. That same week, we received the exciting news that we’re expecting our second child in May!

Doug Bradle: I had a son, Paul, born in April, and we also traveled as a family to Hungary and Serbia to spend time with extended family.

Lisa Burton: Spending 2 weeks in California—1 in San Francisco and 1 in San Diego (and having high tea at the Palace Hotel in San Fran!)

CJ Conger: Celebrating my 14-year wedding anniversary with my wife, Jessica!

Jackie Derrick: I went on a 5-day vacation with my son to the U.P. of Michigan and we made some great memories.

Tyler Dietrich: 10 year anniversary with my wife, Dominique.

Derek Dotterer: Learning I am going to be an uncle.

Kevin Funk: My second grandson, Rip, was born on July 22nd.

Ed Gabriel: My favorite personal moment was seeing my best friend get married.

Caleb Gee: The birth of our youngest son, Benjamin, and a family trip to Oklahoma for Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles). We are part of a large virtual gathering each week with people from all over the world (lots of US and Canada). It was great to meet many of them in person and share time together worshipping God and hearing other’s testimonies!

Wyatt Gerber: I went on a fishing trip to Canada and traveled outside of the country for the first time.

Gabriel Gonzalez: Moving my mom, sister and nephew into a house in a nice neighborhood. They lived in a very bad neighborhood for many years. Being able to get them out of there and knowing they’re safe is a great moment.

Eric Hartter: Holding my first child.

Kelly Hayslett: I took the trip of a lifetime with a good friend. We went to Tuscany, Italy, and then headed down to the Amalfi Coast to finish out the trip. What a beautiful place to visit!

Scott Herrmann: We took the oldest three children to Rocky Mountain National Park. I wasn’t sure if they would like hiking at their ages (8, 5, 4) but they had a blast! Also, as a follow-up to my post last year, we bought a bunny (not for eating, @Brent M) and one of my favorite things was feeding and watching him eat whole dandelions.

Maya Hodel: Finding out Dalton and I were pregnant and getting to grow our family!

Michelle Hoerner: Our son’s engagement

Joy Kinsinger: Supporting and watching my bestie bring my goddaughter earthside. She came suddenly over a month early due to some complications—it was a terrifying week of little to no sleep being at the hospital (since pure adrenaline and hospital couches don’t provide great sleep conditions)—learning to advocate and care for a 4lb miracle and my bestie as they recovered. Now all is well, and I get to thoroughly enjoy the fact that she came early just to share a birthday with me.

Chris Larsen: Getting to spend my 34-hour restarts doing some bucket list items, including: seeing the Budweiser Clydesdales, spending the day in Manhattan, and visiting Graceland.

Ryan Mara: One of our non-verbal Autistic boys starting to say words and sentences.

Brent Martin: Thinking back, I think the harvest season was a personal highlight. The weather was so beautiful and the time with my family seemed extra special this year. I am always blown away by the way God can make a few sacks of corn fill a bin in just a few short months.

Jake Miller: My girlfriend and I getting debt free. Also really excited for what the future has in store for us.

Sam Moravec: I have a couple of favorites—the first is when some family and I went to the Indy Shorts film festival in July for the premiere of “The Ice Cream Man,” which was filmed at my Uncle Tony’s ice cream parlor, Zaharako’s. I had fun going to a Hollywood-style film festival for the first time, meeting the cast and crew, and of course enjoyed some Zaharako’s ice cream. The other moment was hosting my family for Thanksgiving at my house.

Klay Nafziger: The birth of my son, Parks. There’s not much that could top that.

Tianne Overmyer: In April, I spent 12 days with my 3 sisters, traveling. We started our trip in Budapest, and then boarded a riverboat where we stayed and cruised down the Danube River for 7 days. We stopped along the way at many different towns and were able to explore each one. We finished out the trip in the Czech Republic for several days, which was the highlight of our trip.

Bill Parker: When we started the process of adopting my two boys.

Toby Plattner: Getting married in June! It’s been a wonderful start to the rest of my life. 😊

Shawn Reischauer: I graduated with my master’s degree from Moody Theological Seminary this year and that was a big moment for me. That had been something that I had been working on for years on top of working here full time, so it was amazing and rewarding to finally get that achievement and get a lot of space back in my schedule!

Dayton Rumbold: Traveling to Switzerland with my wife, sight-seeing, hiking, and accidentally ordering an extra extra large pizza because I don’t speak Italian 😅

Chris Smith: We got our new puppers, Agatha, and she is now a 1-year-old maniac.

Thad Steffen: I went on a great mission trip to southern Texas, and I got to be in the wedding of one of my best friends.

Heather Warnick: Going to Miami with my family for my birthday! It was such a blast.

Bill Wettstein: I love seeing people grow, especially children as they have new experiences. One example was helping my 5-year-old granddaughter overcome her fears and beam when she was brave enough to hold a baby duck.

Lena Zimmerman: Traveling to Europe! (hiking a Via Ferrata and paragliding were my highlights)
